Multiple Versions of Recommendation Letters

The final consideration when submitting a recommendation letter is whether to have one for all schools or have some diversity. One instance when you should opt for the diversity is if you are applying for different academic disciplines at different schools. For example, if you are only applying to one engineering school and the rest you are applying as a political science major, you should submit different recommendation letters for the engineering school. Also, if you have a faculty recommendation letter, he or she might write one specifically for the school they work at, and then a more general one for your other schools. The final consideration is any activity you are only pursuing at some schools. For example, if you are applying to four schools with a debate team, you will want to submit a letter from your debate coach, but that letter sometimes will not help as much in your applications to other schools.
