Being a leader in your area of interest is important to show your interest and capabilities to the admissions committee. A leadership position does not have to be titled; you can be a leader by setting an example for the rest of your group, or by taking the initiative on various projects. In order to show that you were a leader to colleges, you can have a recommendation letter from the supervisor. It is good to balance between leadership positions and simply following a leader. It is beneficial just to be a member of a group, because it shows your capacity to work with others. Do not be the person who runs after every possible position and then does not contribute anything once they have gained the title. It is important to be authentic about your interests in a position to ensure it shows your passion and so that you fulfill the duties of your office.
